Here's a few things to do in early spring
Direct sow flower seeds for nasturtiums, snapdragons, asters, alyssum, calendula, centaurea, pansies, violas, scabiosa, mignonette, dianthus, poppy, cosmos, gypsophila, annual phlox, verbena, and ageratum. Marigold flower seeds can be planted during the last half of the month.
If you started flower seeds earlier thin your seedlings you have already started to encourage growth.
By now you should have some idea of what perennials survived the winter and what needs replaced. This is also a good time to relocate plants that didn’t do well last year. It's an ideal time to space plants out plants.
Divide perennials like chrysanthemums, delphinium, anemone, fall asters, day lilies, and Shasta daisy.
Plant spring bulbs if the ground isn't frozen. Mix a couple Tablespoons of bone meal and blood meal, or a bulb fertilizer into the hole, then plant.
Sow herb seeds for chives, parsley, sage, dill, thyme, marjoram, etc. directly into the soil in open spots along the border.
*If you are you are growing annual flower seeds this year start them now indoors.
The best flower seeds come from reputable companies. Flower seed must be cared for properly so that it is viable(the amount of seed that will germinate in the package) when you plant it. Many flower seeds purchased locally have been stored over the winter at improper temperatures and moisture levels. Often the viability of the flower seed is very low. Inexpensive seed is not always a good buy. Shop carefully from names you trust.
